Eat, Speak, & Smile More Confidently with Dentures

From functional difficulties such as chewing and speaking to damaged self-confidence, missing teeth can significantly affect your quality of life. Dentures can provide patients suffering from tooth loss with both functional and cosmetic benefits, as well as a long-term solution. You can receive dentures to replace only a few to all of their teeth and are able to choose from traditional and implant-supported restorations. At Dr. McGibony & Associates, we help patients improve their dental health by providing exceptional care using the latest techniques. Our doctors can help you restore your smile with a custom-made prosthetic at our practice in Statesboro, GA.

What are Dentures?

This restorative solution is an excellent option to fill the gaps in your smile if you have lost some or all of your teeth. Typically, dentures are composed of a plastic base that closely matches the color of your gums. The false teeth portion of the denture can be made using porcelain or acrylic for strong, durable replacement that can withstand regular use.

Depending on the location and amount of teeth you are missing, you may need partial or full dentures. Partial dentures are best if you are only missing a few teeth and will be held in place with small metal clasps. If you need to replace an entire row of teeth, you will need a full denture. These restorations can replace one or both dental arches to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing smile. Instead of clasps, full dentures remain in place through suction and dental adhesive. If you would prefer permanent, incredibly stable foundation for your denture, dental implants can secure your restoration in place with lifelike results.

Benefits

Many patients feel self-conscious when their smile is not complete. Reestablishing your full set of teeth can improve your self-confidence. Missing teeth can also create a hollow, aged appearance. Dentures can better support facial features for a younger appearance. Often, patients also find themselves more comfortable in social and professional situations, allowing them the opportunity to be more successful in their relationships.

Above and beyond the cosmetic aspect, dentures also offer several functional benefits including:

  • Improved speech
  • Better ability to chew
  • Prevention of shifting of remaining teeth

Depending on your needs and oral health, your doctor may recommend a traditional restoration or one supported by dental implants

What to Expect

To determine the best type of dentures for you, one of our doctors will conduct an in-depth examination. During your consultation, they will review your medical history, x-rays, and discuss your goals. If you choose to receive full dentures, we may need to extract remaining isolated teeth. If no extractions are necessary, we will take impressions of your gums to ensure that you custom-made restoration fits comfortably. Your impressions will be sent out to a trusted local lab where your dentures will be designed and fabricated. If you are receiving implant-supported dentures, you will first receive your implants and wear a temporary restorations while undergoing a healing process before we will take impressions.

The entire team at Dr. McGibony & Associates is committed to helping our patients feel comfortable with their smile by providing the best solution for their needs.

Once the lab has created your permanent restoration, you will return to our office to receive your finalized prosthetic. We will make sure your denture fits properly and make any necessary adjustments. Your dentures will then be secured into place. At this time you can ask your doctor any questions regarding maintenance or discuss any concerns you may have. We strive to ensure all our patients are completely satisfied with their dental work, providing lifelike restorations matched to their unique smile.
