Invisalign® vs. Metal Braces

A straight, even smile can increase your self-esteem and boost your confidence, making orthodontic treatment a worthwhile investment. Today, there are many orthodontic techniques to choose from, and it can be difficult to know which treatment is best for you and your needs. Dr. Jason McGibony and his associates can explain the pros and cons of Invisalign® vs. metal braces to patients in the Statesboro, GA, area.

McGibony and Associates is the only practice in the area using advanced iTero® digital technology to create custom Invisalign® aligner trays for optimal fit and comfort.

Invisalign® vs. Traditional Braces

Both Invisalign® and metal braces work by exerting steady pressure on teeth to bring them into desired alignment, correcting spacing and bite issues. Metal braces are cemented onto teeth, and connected by wires and specialized rubber bands. Invisalign® uses a series of clear, plastic aligner trays that fit snugly over the teeth, with each aligner being replaced with the next tray from the series every two weeks.

At McGibony and Associates, we have been providing Invisalign® for over six years, with significant results. We are the only practice in the area using iTero® digital technology to create custom Invisalign® aligner trays for optimal fit and comfort.

Invisalign® Patients

Many patients prefer Invisalign® because of the benefits afforded by virtually invisible treatment, and convenient, removable trays. Patients who are hesitant to wear conspicuous metal brackets and wires are often more comfortable with this more discreet process. All candidates should be over the age of 15 and committed to wearing the aligners as directed. Our doctors can provide detailed instructions for teens as well as tips for all patients to help ensure success.

Dr. McGibony is a certified preferred provider for Invisalign®, and recommends this method for many patients. However, not everyone is an ideal Invisalign® candidate. Invisalign® can accomplish many cosmetic and minor functional corrections, but is not for severe malocclusions and misalignment. After an initial exam, our doctors can determine your candidacy for Invisalign® and if indicated, will offer a referral for traditional braces.
